Types of Massage Therapy We Offer:
What is Ki? Ki is life force energy. Our bodies have channels called
meridians that carry this energy. By massaging them, we can tap into our
own life force energy. The Shiatsu practitioner will work on a client
and identify areas of imbalance; for instance, a Kyo meridian point or a
Jitsu area. By using various shiatsu techniques such as rocking,
shaking, stretching, pressing, and tapping, the practitioner can move
the Ki and therefore balance the Kyo to be less weak (lacking energy)
and the Jitsu to be less tense (resistant to opening).
Unlike
most other types of massages, no oil or lotion is used and clients lie
on a mat wearing comfortable clothing for the entire session. Shiatsu is
a non-invasive therapy that may help reduce stress and restorative
effects. Each person experiences their session differently; it may be
invigorating or calming, for example, depending on the body’s own needs
and what’s required to balance its Ki.
